Social & Emotional Learning
Social and emotional learning (SEL) is the process of developing self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, responsible decision-making and relationship skills. Research shows that school-based efforts to promote students’ social emotional learning skills is an effective approach to enhance children's success in school and in life as a whole.
MSLA launched its SEL pilot programme in March 2024, offering the opportunity to Grade 10 & 11 students in a voluntary capacity.
The response from these learners was incredibly powerful and the programme is now being included for all MSLA Grade 9 - 11 students.

We can take the analogy of a potter spinning a flowerpot to explain how SEL benefits learners.
Pottery is a broad category of items and skills and when we implement the skill of self- management to it, we can come to specified objectives aligned to a clear vision to achieve our
goals. With our objectives in mind, we have the crucial step of overcoming procrastination to
ensure we continue the journey towards achieving our goals.
